Morocco Reopens Mosques with COVID-19 Safety Measures in Place

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has decided to reopen mosques starting Wednesday, July 15 for the five daily prayers, with the exception of the Friday prayer. However, worshippers will have to comply with some preventive measures against COVID-19.
A list of gestures and behaviors that Muslim worshippers will have to respect from Wednesday, July 15 has been drawn up by the Ministry of Endowments and the health authorities.
Worshippers are therefore required to perform their ablutions at home, as the mosques must remain closed. Similarly, each worshipper must wear a protective mask, bring their prayer mat and Quran to the mosque.
A minimum physical distance of one and a half meters between worshippers must be respected. Worshippers are not allowed to gather and shake hands. The use of hydroalcoholic gel to disinfect hands and body temperature checks are also mandatory.
