Morocco Reopens Hair and Beauty Salons with New COVID-19 Safety Measures

Hair and beauty salons in Morocco have reopened their doors to the delight of their customers who could no longer do without these daily pleasures. Many of them are coming in for hair care or aesthetics.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken to contain it have led to the closure of beauty salons for more than three months. The reopening sounds like a relief for many women.

Like many other sectors, "the premises of the salons are equipped with electronic temperature devices, disinfectants and foot baths at the entrance, arrows on the floor indicating the direction of circulation and posters reminding the preventive measures to be followed" (social distancing, wearing a mask, etc.). It is under these conditions alone that the reopening was approved, reports the MAP.

Yacine is a hairdresser in a women’s beauty salon. He is happy to get back to his daily routine. The sounds of scissors, hair dryers, clippers, the phone ringing all day long for appointments. All these sometimes annoying sounds that he has missed, he said. He specifies in a statement to the MAP that before the opening, they were first required to obtain a duly signed authorization. Then, "we contacted a company specialized in disinfection to sterilize the salon. We held a meeting with the staff around COVID-19 and we had bought the disinfection supplies," he explained.

New habits have therefore been adopted, such as disinfecting each seat when a customer leaves. He also points out that "fewer chairs are now used, appointments are spaced out between customers and working hours are reduced". That’s why, Yacine acknowledges, they had to contact the customers to fine-tune the various appointments to avoid a long waiting line. "The customers have reacted positively to these measures and are very satisfied. They find all the necessary disinfection supplies and are served in a decluttered environment".

For Bouchra, a customer of the salon, the fact that the measures are respected and protect customers from the disease is a sign of responsibility and citizenship. "The return is a bit special, but I think we have already taken these habits during the confinement each time we had to go out".
