Morocco Releases 251 Detained Minors Amid Coronavirus Precautions

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports announced that 251 minors in difficult situations or in legal disputes, placed in child protection centers, have been returned to their families, benefiting from exceptional exit permits.
The press release adds that this step is part of the urgent precautionary measures taken by the Moroccan authorities to deal with the proliferation of Coronavirus.
In order to preserve the general interest of public health, the Minister and government spokesman had contacted the President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to examine the legal possibilities of modifying the provisions against minor detainees.
The ministry has therefore welcomed the responsiveness of the President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office as well as the strong support of the Presidents of the Courts of Appeal, the Courts of First Instance, the Attorney Generals of the King and the juvenile judges.
