Morocco Rejects Rights Groups’ Criticism Over Dissolved NGO Case

The position of "Human Rights Watch" (HRW) and "Amnesty International" (AI) following the dissolution of the Racines association was categorically rejected by the Moroccan authorities, considering it to be an abusive interference in the affairs of justice.
The Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights expressed its astonishment following the release of a joint communiqué from the two organizations which "contained unjustified and unsubstantiated general assessments and conclusions, lacking admissible evidence and revealing indicators", considering that the "right to bring legal action and access to a fair trial are guaranteed to all litigants, in accordance with international standards, the Constitution and the relevant national laws".
For the Moroccan authorities, the AI and HRW communiqué expresses a deliberate desire to undermine the achievements and accomplishments of Morocco on this subject, particularly with regard to the increase in the number of active associations in various fields, estimated at 140,000 associations.
The fact that the public prosecutor’s office chose civil justice over criminal justice was a relevant decision, the statement also reads, accusing the two organizations of going against the international rules governing the creation of associations.
