Morocco Rejects Amnesty International’s Response, Demands Evidence for Spyware Allegations

Summoned by the Head of Government to provide evidence of its allegations, Amnesty International is struggling to justify itself. Its recent statements served as a justification have also failed to convince the Executive, which is still "awaiting" its response to the correspondence from the Head of Government.
The response from the regional director of Amnesty International is deemed inadmissible by Morocco. The government believes that the correspondence was rather addressed to the Secretary General of the International Organization.
In a statement to MAP, Hasna Tribak, Director of Legal Studies and International Cooperation at the Ministry of State in charge of Human Rights and Relations with Parliament, recalled that the Moroccan authorities are also awaiting the compelling scientific evidence they have requested.
For the Director, the letter from the Regional Director does not respond to the correspondence of the Head of Government in terms of form, arguing that the Regional Director "is neither the recipient, nor the level to which the Head of Government addressed himself".
In this regard, she recalled that the Head of Government had contacted the Acting Secretary General of the Organization, and not its Regional Director for the MENA region. "Similarly, he addressed the Organization’s headquarters in London, and not the Regional Office in Tunis," she specified. As for the substance, the spokesperson for the Ministry of State believes that the letter "merely repeats the same light allegations and gratuitous accusations contained in the report, without providing any scientific evidence or objective arguments".
