Morocco Reimposes Lockdown in Fez and Tangier as COVID-19 Cases Surge

The resurgence of new cases in Fez, Tangier-Assilah has led to the tightening of measures under the state of health emergency. The government will apply new restrictive measures in these two prefectures this Wednesday, August 5.
The government wants to prohibit travel to and from these two prefectures for people who do not have an exceptional travel authorization issued by the authorities. As for gatherings, they are prohibited, while neighborhood shops, supermarkets and cafes must close at 10 p.m.
During this period, game rooms, gyms and neighborhood sports fields will also be closed by the public authorities. This measure also applies to beaches and public parks. As for public transport, it will have to operate at 50% of its capacity.
In addition, the most affected residential neighborhoods in these two prefectures will be closed off by checkpoints and access will be prohibited except with an exceptional authorization issued by the authorities.
