Morocco Receives First Shipment of Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine, Prepares for Rollout

Morocco received its first batch of the Sinopharm anti-Covid vaccine from the Chinese laboratory on Tuesday, January 5th. Pending the receipt of the remaining batches, including those from the British laboratory AstraZeneca, the vaccination campaign could be launched in the very near future.
The wait has been long for the receipt of these first batches of Chinese vaccines. Their transport was ensured by the national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM).
In a clarification, the Minister of Health had justified this delay by technical problems related to the "issuance of marketing and use authorizations", arguing that Morocco will in no case be able to receive an unauthorized or unusable vaccine.
In total, Morocco has acquired 65 million doses of the two Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines for the vaccination of 25 million citizens, Khalid Ait Taleb had indicated in the Council of Government.
The first people to be vaccinated will be healthcare personnel, public and security authorities, teachers, the elderly and vulnerable groups. Thanks to these first doses of the precious liquid, Morocco could acquire collective immunity and claim a return to normal.
