Morocco to Receive New AstraZeneca Vaccine Shipment Through Covax Initiative

As part of the Covax initiative, Morocco is awaiting a new delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The announcement of this expected allocation for next week is good news for the Moroccan authorities, already concerned about the imminent depletion of the stock.
At the Ministry of Health, the debate is open on whether or not to suspend the delivery of AstraZeneca doses, reports Médias24, indicating that in the end, the department has decided to maintain the delivery of the D1 doses.
At present, more than 100 countries that have participated in this mechanism have been able to have rapid and equitable access to safe, effective and WHO-approved vaccine doses, for coverage that can reach up to 20% of the population of each country, the same source points out.
To recall, Morocco has taken part in the COVAX mechanism, a global initiative that collaborates with governments and pharmaceutical industries to ensure the availability of validated vaccines, to limit the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was set up at the end of 2020 by GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), in collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, as well as other partners.
