Morocco Recalls Ambassador After Quran Burning in Sweden Sparks Diplomatic Tension

The Ambassador of Morocco in Sweden has been recalled for consultation for an indefinite period, after the Swedish government authorized a demonstration during which the Quran was burned in front of a Mosque in Stockholm. The Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of Sweden in Rabat was also summoned to the ministry.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad specifies that during this summons, the Swedish diplomat was "firmly condemned by the Kingdom of Morocco for this offense and the rejection of this unacceptable act."
"This new offensive and irresponsible act disregards the feelings of more than a billion Muslims, at this sacred time of the great pilgrimage to Mecca and the blessed Eid Al-Adha feast," the statement said.
"Whatever the political positions or differences that may exist between countries, the Kingdom considers it unacceptable for the faith of Muslims to be thus trampled upon. No more than the principles of tolerance and the values of universalism can be reduced to accommodate the views of some while showing so little consideration for the beliefs of more than a billion Muslims," the statement added.
