Morocco Ranks Among World’s Least Safe Destinations for LGBTQ+ Travelers, Study Finds

Morocco was ranked 170th out of more than 200 countries as the most hostile tourist destination for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people in the 2022 edition of the LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index.
Morocco ranks 170th in this global ranking, with a safety score for LGBTQ+ tourists of -89, ahead of Tunisia, 172nd, with a score of -91 and behind Algeria, 165th in the ranking with a score of -75.

Ten criteria were defined to establish this ranking, including the legalization of same-sex marriage, the existence of a law allowing transgender people to change their identity or the rate of murder of transgender people, reports Managers.
Canada tops the ranking with a score of 383, while Brunei, last in the ranking, records a score of -300. Bahrain, which was ranked 135th with a score of -15, is considered the most LGBTQ-friendly Arab country.
