Morocco Ranks Among Top 10 Most Googled Travel Destinations Despite Earthquake
Morocco is among the top 10 most searched travel destinations on Google. The powerful and violent earthquake of September 8 did not really have a negative impact on Moroccan tourism.
Condé Nast Traveler (CNT) has ranked Morocco among the 10 most searched travel destinations on Google in 2023. Despite the earthquake, the kingdom has seen its cities invaded by hordes of tourists. The fears that the earthquake would interrupt the influx of tourists have therefore proved unfounded. "The country is still recovering, but the response from travelers has been strong," writes the magazine, adding that travelers have been encouraged to continue visiting the country to contribute to its recovery.
Morocco owes its appeal to the diversity of images and sounds of its cities as well as the "vast expanse of history and culture beyond." CNT does not hesitate to describe it as a "showcase of colors". Malta, Egypt, Thailand, Cyprus, Croatia, Portugal and Italy, as well as Spain and Greece are the nine other destinations featured in this top 10.
Morocco is one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. In 2022, the country welcomed around 11 million visitors. At the end of October, the country recorded more than 12.3 million tourist arrivals compared to 8.8 million arrivals in the same period last year, an increase of 39%, according to data from the Office des Changes. As for the sector’s revenues, they reached 88.4 billion dirhams ($8.7 billion) in the first 10 months of 2023, an increase of 20%.
