Morocco Ranks Near Bottom in Global Math and Science Education Survey

A survey released on Tuesday again ranks Moroccan students among the worst on a list of over 58,000 students registered in 64 different countries around the world.
The study that produced this result is conducted every four years and concerns students in the fourth year of primary school and the second year of middle school. The subjects concerned are mathematics and science. Moroccan primary school students come out with a score of 383, far from the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) average of 500 points in mathematics. In science, they only get a score of 374.
The results are even worse for second-year middle school students, who are last in the ranking in mathematics with 388. However, in science, they score 394 points. For now, it is the Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong that top the various rankings.
Nevertheless, the new ranking contains data indicating that education is improving worldwide. Furthermore, the organizers believe that the fact that "most countries have been able to educate their fourth and eighth grade students to at least a minimum competence is a good thing".
