Morocco Ranks 82nd in Global Tourism Competitiveness Index, Study Finds

Morocco ranks 82nd among the world’s most performing tourism economies, according to a new study by the World Economic Forum on travel and tourism.
Published on May 21, this study reveals that Morocco is the 82nd global tourism economy "in terms of attractiveness, competitiveness and development" with a score of 3.64, ahead of Tunisia which ranks 83rd and Algeria, ranked 98th with a score of 3.42 out of 119 economies. The United States, Spain, Japan, France and Australia form the top five in this ranking.
"This year marks a turning point for the travel and tourism sector, which we know has the capacity to unlock growth and serve communities through economic and social transformation," explains Francisco Betti, Head of the Global Industries team at the World Economic Forum, quoted by L’Économiste.
"The global tourism industry should rebound. This is largely due to a significant increase in global demand, which has coincided with more available flights, better international openness and increased interest and investment in natural and cultural attractions," the specialized daily continues.
The sector is gradually recovering from the Covid-19 health crisis, but still faces certain challenges. "Labor shortages persist and the capacity of air routes, capital investment, productivity and other supply factors in the sector have not kept up with the increase in demand. This imbalance, exacerbated by global inflation, has led to price increases and service issues," the publication details.
