Morocco Ranks 61st Globally in Military Power, Report Finds

Morocco ranks 61st in the world in terms of military power. This is the result of the latest report from the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies.
According to the latest report from the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies, Morocco ranks 61st out of 145 countries, and 7th in Africa, among 25 countries with significant military capabilities. With 121 military ships, it ranks 25th globally and 4th in Africa in terms of naval power. This improvement in the kingdom’s ranking is explained by the implementation of a military strategy focused mainly on the development and modernization of defense systems. Geopolitical instability and the escalation of cross-border threats, particularly in terms of terrorism and organized crime, have prompted Morocco to increase its arms imports, reaching $352 million. Military spending has continued to increase, representing nearly 4% of GDP between 2021 and 2022.
The report from the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies also shows an improvement in Morocco in the terrorism fight index. Morocco is ranked 7th among the most peaceful countries in North Africa and the Middle East. At the origin of this improvement, the efforts of the security authorities, particularly in the dismantling of many terrorist cells. Not to mention the kingdom’s contribution to the opening of a United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism and Training in Africa, an unprecedented initiative strengthening trust and esteem towards the national strategy to combat terrorism and extremism.
According to the "the good country" index, Morocco is at the top of the index of international security and peace, thanks to its significant efforts in the deployment of United Nations peacekeeping forces and its good performance in cybersecurity. It is also one of the 30 safest countries in the world according to the global state security index. It tops the ranking in Africa. This success is justified by effective management during the Covid-19 health crisis.
