Morocco Ranks 5th Globally in Climate Change Performance Index

Morocco has maintained its ranking in the 2022 Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) ranking released last Tuesday. Out of the 68 countries studied, the kingdom inherits the 5th place.
In this report, the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) designated Morocco as an "ambitious leader" in international climate negotiations, with an overall score of 71.64 points.
With this performance, the kingdom has placed in the top 5, outperforming countries like France, Germany, Spain, China, or Japan. On the African continent, Morocco is in the lead and thus becomes the most performing country, ahead of Egypt (21st), South Africa (39th) and Algeria (53rd).
"As in previous years, Morocco occupies a high rank in the categories ’greenhouse gas emissions’, ’energy use’ and ’climate policy’. The country’s trend in renewable energies is high," commented the authors of the report.
They also welcomed "progress in investments in the public transport sector and in energy efficiency regulations." Weaknesses are nevertheless noted in the agriculture and building sectors.
It should be noted that the CCPI does not award the top three places in the ranking, considering that "no country in the world is performing well enough in all index categories to achieve a very high overall score".
