Morocco Ranks 4th Globally in Climate Protection, Leads Africa and Arab World

Morocco’s efforts in the climate field have been rewarded and praised in the 2021 Climate Performance Index report. The kingdom ranks 4th in terms of climate performance globally and 1st in Africa and the Arab world.
A remarkable performance by Morocco thanks to the efforts made within the framework of its energy strategy for the development of renewable and clean energies. Morocco’s position is also explained by its international climate policy, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and the Environment.
Morocco has committed, within the framework of the Paris Agreement, to actively participate in global climate alliances as well as in ambitious regional initiatives. As a good student, it has also honored all its commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in terms of reporting by already submitting three National Communications and two updated biennial reports on efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, reports the MAP.
The report was published on Monday by the Non-Governmental Organizations Germanwatch, the Climate Action Network International and the German New Climate Institute. Morocco is delighted with this good news, which will give impetus to the actions being taken to improve the country’s climate performance. In the ranking, Morocco comes in behind Sweden, the United Kingdom and Denmark.
About 57 countries in the world, representing 90% of global greenhouse gas emissions, have been subjected to this assessment. They were ranked in the four following categories: renewable energies, greenhouse gas emissions, energy use and climate policy, adds the same source.
