Morocco Ramps Up Price Controls and Quality Checks Ahead of Ramadan

For the holy month of Ramadan that is approaching, measures are being taken by the government to ensure the quality of consumer products while anticipating the rise in their prices.
The imminence of the holy month of Ramadan is already mobilizing the government. It is the daily Les Inspirations Éco that informs us of the measures the authorities intend to take.
According to the newspaper, "a meeting was chaired the day before yesterday by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Nouredine Boutayeb, in the presence of representatives of the ministries concerned and the heads of economic affairs and coordination divisions in the various prefectures and provinces of the kingdom."
This meeting, Les Inspirations Éco reports, plans to monitor the situation of the supply of the national market and prices, particularly for products in high demand during the month of Ramadan. But also, it specifies, "it was mainly a matter of discussing the means to be implemented to guide the interventions of the services and commissions responsible for consumer control and protection, with a view to developing monitoring and coordination mechanisms between the various administrations and bodies concerned at the central and territorial level."
While it is a fact that the prices of basic necessities remain, on the whole, stable and observe the usual trend, with some changes in the prices of certain products compared to last year, the authorities, the newspaper reports, do not intend to lower their guard and would like to remain mobilized in order to ensure regular monitoring of the state of the markets, the efficiency of distribution channels and the preservation of purchasing power, safety and health of citizens. To this end, a national telephone number (5757) will allow consumers to file complaints in the different regions of the kingdom, to contact the permanent cells set up in the prefectures and provinces.
