Morocco's Ramadan Vaccination Efforts: Expert Addresses Fasting Concerns

The vaccination campaign in Morocco is progressing well, but receiving the injection while fasting during the month of Ramadan is the subject that concerns many Moroccans. In an interview with 2 M, the biologist doctor Zakaria Jaouhari explains the issue.

Vaccination is of great necessity and strongly recommended due to the current spread of the pandemic, said the biologist doctor. Regarding vaccination while fasting, the vaccine always has the same effect, he affirmed, stressing that since the vaccine does not pass through the stomach, not soliciting the body’s enzymes, the risk of allergic reactions is extremely low. However, any patient previously allergic or with allergic rhinitis should inform the doctor so that the right arrangements are made.

Regarding side effects, they depend on each patient. Some may not experience any signs, others may feel fatigue or have redness at the injection site, all reactions that are in no way related to fasting, the specialist hammered. Addressing the rumors around the AstraZeneca vaccine, Jaouhari said that this vaccine has proven its effectiveness.

As proof, the 100% Moroccan scientific medical committee overseeing the vaccination operation, as well as its members, were the first to receive the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm serums. As a scientist, he stressed that the contraceptive pill and the pregnancy period are more thrombogenic than the vaccine, in order to prove that no one intends to harm citizens.

For the record, currently in the kingdom, 4,449,047 people have received the first dose of the vaccine and 4,103,257, the second inoculation. Thus, vaccination while fasting during the month of Ramadan is safe, he reassured.
