Morocco’s Ramadan 2025 Expected to Begin March 2, Astronomers Predict

Based on scientific calculations, it is possible to know precisely the date of the beginning of the month of Ramadan in Morocco as well as that of Eid al-Fitr.
It has not yet been officially announced by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, but if we believe the astronomical calculations based on precise scientific rules, Ramadan should begin in Morocco on Sunday, March 2 and end on Monday, March 31, 2025, the day of Eid al-Fitr. The fasting period should therefore last 29 days in Morocco. According to Moroccan astronomers, it begins at the start of the new moon and ends at the start of the following lunar cycle. Even if the calculations make it possible to know precisely the day of the new moon, the Moroccan tradition requires that the celestial body be observable to the naked eye.
Ramadan is a period of prayer and fasting, which is one of the pillars of Islam. Throughout its duration, believers - with the exception of the most fragile people - must abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and having sexual relations from sunrise to sunset. Exceptions exist for children who have not reached puberty, pregnant women, the sick or the elderly.
