Morocco Raises $1 Billion in 24 Hours for Coronavirus Response Fund

King Mohammed VI had ordered the establishment of a special fund dedicated to the management of the Coronavirus pandemic. In 24 hours, more than 10 billion dirhams have been collected by the Moroccan authorities.
Set up to be able to support the expenses related to the evolution of the epidemic in the country, the fund will also support the national economy through a battery of measures in favor of vulnerable sectors.
Thus, the contributors did not wait, starting with the Office Chérifien des Phosphates group, which injected 3 billion dirhams, and the association of regions, which donated an amount of 1.5 billion dirhams, including 1 billion from the inter-regional solidarity fund.
Several major Moroccan groups have also opened their wallets, including Bank of Africa and Afriquia Gaz, which contributed to the fund for 1 billion dirhams each.
In addition, the 3.3 billion dirham fine imposed on Maroc Telecom in February will be paid into the special fund.
