Morocco's Rabat Region to Build 16 New Schools, Boosting Education Infrastructure

The Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) intends to build 16 schools this year in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region. This is one of the flagship projects included in the 2020 action plan of the AREF presented by its director Mohamed Aderdour.

In detail, it involves the construction of two primary schools, six communal schools, four colleges, including one with a boarding school, four high schools, including 3 with boarding schools, revealed Mohamed Aderdour during a recent press conference in Rabat. According to him, the construction of the establishments is part of the first axis of the law guaranteeing the effective, academic and homogeneous implementation of the strategic vision of the reform of the education system, in particular with regard to the promotion of equity and equal opportunities in terms of access to education and training in order to make access to education compulsory for the 4 to 15 age group.

Mohamed Aderdour also announced that 540,894 students will benefit from the royal initiative "one million school bags" compared to 515,188 in 2019; 28,105 students will benefit from school transportation compared to 26,754 last year. As for the Tayssir program, the Ministry of Education intends to increase the budget allocated to impact 309,012 students in 2020 compared to 286,933 in 2019, an increase of 7.69%.

According to the director of the AREF, children with disabilities are not left behind. The Ministry of Education will equip 40 rooms with educational and pedagogical tools, train 800 teachers, trainers, directors and inspectors and provide them with the necessary support through the adoption of an individual educational project. This, in partnership with the National Center Mohammed VI for the Disabled (CNMH).
