Morocco to Quintuple Speed Cameras on Roads by Year’s End

2019 will be the year of radars in Morocco with the installation of some 500 devices, just revealed the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office on the occasion of the national road safety day, celebrated this Monday, February 18 in the kingdom.
During a meeting devoted to the electronic processing of highway offenses related to speeding, the official indicated that the number of offenses that landed in the courts of the kingdom amounted to 1.44 million last year, adding that in the majority of cases it is a question of speeding offenses.
To try to put an end to this, the number of fixed radars will be multiplied by 5 this year, going from 140 today to 640 by the end of the year, or 500 additional fixed radars, he said.
In addition to these new radars, it is also planned to generalize the electronic processing of these offenses with the main objective of relieving the public prosecutor’s office, according to which a good part of the offenses committed by motorists do not result in follow-up.
Two years ago, the Ministry of Equipment and Transport had announced the launch of an SMS service on offenses recorded by fixed radars. This free service is one of the features offered by the application launched at the same time by the government and which aimed, it was assured, to "strengthen road safety".
