Morocco Quake Linked to King's Jerusalem Stance, Israeli Rabbi Claims

An Israeli rabbi believes there is a link between the earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8, which killed nearly 3,000 people, injured more than 5,500 and caused enormous material damage, and a call by King Mohammed VI on Jerusalem.

King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has meanwhile stated that Jerusalem should become the capital of the Palestinians. "King Mohammed VI of Morocco has recently made a bold statement, just a few months ago, stating that Jerusalem should become the capital of the Palestinians. Almost immediately after this statement, important regions have experienced severe disturbances and collapses," commented Rabbi Mosche Elcharar, a rabbi for the local council of the town of Shlomi, in northern Israel, in an editorial in The Jerusalem Post, thus evoking a link between the earthquakes that struck Syria and Turkey in February and Morocco in September. According to him, the sovereign "seeks to repent" in the face of the violent earthquake that has mourned his kingdom.

For the rabbi, the earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8 goes beyond a geological event: "The fundamental question we must address is whether the earthquake in Morocco was solely a geological phenomenon, such as tectonic plate movements that occur in different parts of the world."
