Morocco Pushes Back on Turkish Supermarket Chain BIM, Citing Local Business Closures

The opening of a BIM supermarket, a Turkish food retail chain, would lead to the closure of nearly 60 businesses in each neighborhood. A situation that the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Green Economy does not see favorably.
Moulay Hafid El Alamy, during a meeting with the president of the Turkish group, BIM, expressed his dissatisfaction with the economic fallout on the Moroccan market, specifying that trade relations are becoming impossible in the current state of affairs.
In response to the weekly questions in the Moroccan parliament, the minister deplored, on Monday, February 10, the closure of 60 businesses in each neighborhood of the country, due to the incursion of BIM supermarkets.
This situation, which has become unsustainable in the long term, has led the minister to propose to the Turkish giant to choose between including 50% of Moroccan-made products on its shelves or the definitive closure of the chain.
