Morocco's Public Sector Sees 6% Salary Boost, Average Now 8,000 DH Monthly

The salary increase that followed the social dialogue agreement has allowed the salary to increase by 32% in ten years and by 6% compared to 2018, according to the latest Report on Human Resources, which accompanies the 2020 Finance Bill.

The number of civil servants of the State, now standing at 564,549 people, has been declining since 2015, the year of the break in the upward trend in the workforce, reports medias24.com.

Following the last dialogue in April 2019, the average monthly net salary in the public sector recorded a 6% increase compared to 2018, bringing the average salary to 8,000 DH.

According to the same Report, this increase should be observed until 2021, due to the implementation of this agreement which should extend until that same date.

This increase is equivalent to 3 times the GDP per capita and 5.5 times the average total household consumption expenditure of Moroccans.

In Morocco, the average salary of public sector employees has reached 3,041 DH in 2019, even though 62% of them receive more than 6,000 DH per month, the same source notes.

It goes on to say that civil servants in scales 10 and above have an average salary of 9,571 DH, while those in scales 7 to 9 receive a salary of 5,501 DH and those in scales 6 and below, 4,647 DH.
