Morocco Probes Alleged Russian Diesel Smuggling at Tanger Med Port

The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), an opposition party, has addressed a parliamentary question to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, regarding the alleged importation of Russian diesel through the port of Tanger Med.
In this parliamentary question to which EFE had access, the opposition party wanted to know the measures taken by the State to fight against this fraudulent importation of Russian diesel by Moroccan companies which resell it on the Moroccan market with a profit margin of more than 70%, after having modified the origin of the product, making it appear as coming from the Gulf countries or the United States.
These companies buy low-priced diesel in Russia, which is having difficulty selling this product due to the G7 and EU sanctions against it for its conflict with Ukraine. In the USFP’s question, sent on Friday to the Presidency of the House of Representatives (the lower house), the opposition party accuses these companies of being accomplices with the company in charge of managing the fuel warehouses of the port of Tanger Med.
Contacted, the president of the USFP parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, Abderrahim Chahid, says he hopes to receive a response from the government next week. According to an internal investigation opened at the port of Tanger Med on this matter, several tons of Russian diesel would have already been fraudulently imported into Morocco. This is not the case, assure the authorities of the Moroccan port who nevertheless specify having terminated the contract of the company Horizon Tangiers Terminals (HTT) which manages the warehouses.
