Morocco to Privatize Funeral Services Amid Healthcare Staff Shortage

As part of the proper management of certain funeral services, the Ministry of the Interior, concerned by the lack of human resources, will delegate the powers of the municipal health offices to the private sector. Municipal officials will thus be directed towards medical professions, and doctors towards forensic medicine.
The Ministry of the Interior plans in this regard to strengthen and reorient the role of the BMH by allowing the private sector to take charge of medical contacts and funeral transport, we are informed by the daily Al Massae, specifying that the ministry is opting for the possibility of assigning certain powers, especially in terms of certifying deaths, to private physicians.
Municipal officials who wish to do so will have the opportunity to join the medical professions of technicians and nurses. They must now follow appropriate training that will be provided in collaboration with the Directorate of Skills Development and Digital Transformation and the Higher Institute of Nursing and Health Technician Professions (ISPITS).
This action is in line with the development of a draft law between the Ministries of Health and the Interior, aimed at improving the management and operation of the transport services for the sick, injured and dead, by assigning them to the private sector, to fill the void noted in this sector. A draft law will also be developed to define the methods of constitution and operation of the commission that will confirm the training certificates of doctors in the various branches of medicine, the newspaper stressed. The provisions of Law 77-17 on the practice of forensic medicine will also be implemented by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health.
