Morocco Prison Authority Denies Agreement on Hirak Protesters’ Detention

There is no agreement established between the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) and the National Human Rights Council regarding the Hirak detainees.
The information has been widely relayed on social networks and some electronic sites. According to these rumors, the DGAPR and the CNDH would have concluded an agreement whose terms remain unknown but nevertheless concern the detainees of the events in Al Hoceima.
In a clarification, the DGAPR specifies that each of the two institutions exercises its attributions independently of the other. It explained that it is within the framework of its protection role that the CNDH came to inquire about the state of the detainees against whom disciplinary sanctions had been taken due to violations committed within the prison establishment of Ras El Ma, in Fez.
For the DGAPR, the information relayed is unfounded and denotes an unhealthy intention to harm. It assures that it has given its position as soon as it has identified erroneous elements in the CNDH’s press release published after this visit.
