Morocco’s Prime Minister Faces Speculation Over Potential Cabinet Reshuffle

The possibility of a cabinet reshuffle is stirring up Moroccan public opinion. Is Aziz Akhannouch preparing an adjustment of his team?
"The government is harmonious and works in a collective manner while keeping the right course," said Mustapha Baitas, government spokesman, at a press conference following the government council meeting, thus ruling out any readjustment of the leadership team. He also assured that the majority is holding its meetings and discussing all issues and that a good atmosphere prevails within the government. For there to be a reshuffle, "the combination of two factors, political and constitutional, is necessary. The political aspect relates to the debate within the majority and the constitutional aspect is linked to the constitutional provisions relating to the appointment procedures," he specified.
The time is not for a reshuffle, but rather for meeting challenges. "Given the repercussions of the economic and social crisis on a global scale, the only concern of the government remains the implementation of the government program and the appropriate response to the expectations of Moroccans," said Mustapha Baitas, noting that the government has completed the first stage concerning the fulfillment of commitments related to the social aspect, including the institutionalization of social dialogue. The next step will be a meeting during which the government will present to the unions the assessment of the commitments it has made and reassure them about the process, which is on the right track.
