Morocco’s Prime Minister Attends Panama Presidential Inauguration, Seeks Stronger Ties

On the evening of Sunday, June 30, 2019, the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, headed to Panama City, to represent King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of the new Panamanian President, Laurentino Cortizo.
Beyond the inauguration ceremony, which will take place today, Monday, June 30, 2019, the Head of Government made it clear that Morocco and Panama are working to establish regular political dialogue, as well as a strategic partnership. The Kingdom is seeking to breathe new life into bilateral relations, through the economic, commercial and cultural aspects.
"We will work to ensure that our bilateral relations in the future are strong, diversified and mutually beneficial," said the Head of Government. He also mentioned the strategic roles of Panama in Central America, and of Morocco on the African continent, and their importance in serving the interests of the two countries.
Elected on May 5, Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo obtained 33.08% of the votes, against 31.06% for his right-wing opponent. The Democratic Revolutionary Party candidate, the social democrat had campaigned on the fight against corruption and inequalities.
