Morocco Prepares 4 Million Sheep and Goats for Eid al-Adha Sacrifice

Morocco is preparing for the Eid al-Adha festival. This occasion involves the controls carried out by the National Office of Sanitary Safety (ONSSA) on food products, in several regions of the Kingdom. These are evaluated at several hundred thousand heads of animals.
Thus, some 4 million sheep and goats have been identified since the launch of the identification operation for these types of animals, intended for Eid al-Adha 2019. This operation continues and should be completed on the eve of the Feast of Sacrifice.
"The identification of these animals consists of placing a yellow ear tag with a unique serial number, the mention "عيد الأضحى", a star and a drawing representing the head of the sheep, in order to ensure the traceability of these animals, if necessary," explains ONSSA in a press release.
And to add that it has put in place several measures "in particular, the registration of breeders, the identification of sheep and goats, the control of water quality, the control of animal feed, the control of veterinary medicines, as well as the control of droppings at the exit and destination of poultry farms".
For the record, the Eid al-Adha festival is to be celebrated in Morocco in mid-August.
