Morocco Prepares 4.5 Million Sheep and Goats for Eid al-Adha Celebration

A few weeks before Eid al-Adha, preparations have started at the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA). In this regard, more than 4.5 million heads of sheep and goats have been identified between April 22 and June 6, 2020.
As in the two previous editions, the identification operation this year consists of placing a yellow ear tag with a unique serial number on each animal, in addition to the mention "Eid al-Adha", according to an ONSSA press release. This operation is continuing in all regions of the Kingdom.
In this context, 242,000 sheep and goat fattening farms have been registered by the veterinary services of the National Office.
In addition to the registration of fattening farms and the identification of animals, the preparations also take into account other measures, such as the control of animal feed, the use of veterinary medicines, drinking water and the circulation of manure, which is subject to the mandatory obtaining of a pass from the ONSSA veterinary services in order to monitor their traceability.
According to the same press release, the health situation of the national herd is satisfactory. As for health monitoring and surveillance, they are ensured throughout the territory by the ONSSA veterinary services in close collaboration with private veterinarians.
