Morocco Prepares for ’Marhaba 2023’: 538 Weekly Ferry Crossings Planned for Diaspora Return

Morocco is already preparing for the "Marhaba 2023" operation, which aims to welcome members of the Moroccan community living abroad. Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, announced this news before the Commission on Infrastructure, Energy, Mines and Environment on Tuesday.
In his speech, the minister recalled the figures for the "Marhaba 2022" operation, which took place from June 15 to September 15. The national ports welcomed 3.2 million travelers and 558,000 vehicles. A total of 33 boats connected the Moroccan and European ports. The port of Tanger Med was the most solicited with 59% of the passenger volume, compared to 21% for the port of Tanger ville and 19% for the port of Nador.
To ensure the success of the "Marhaba 2023" operation, Mr. Abdeljalil affirmed that his department is currently working on the development of a plan concerning the fleet and the scheduling of trips, the strengthening of the offer and the diversification of the transit points, as well as on the scrupulous respect of international standards in terms of maritime safety and security.
He also specified that 33 boats from nine different companies will be mobilized to ensure all the connections between the Moroccan ports and those of Spain, France and Italy. In total, 538 weekly maritime crossings will be offered, with an estimated capacity of 500,000 passengers and 136,000 vehicles per week.
For the minister, collaboration with Spain will help ensure the success of the "Marhaba 2023" operation and improve the public services provided to members of the Moroccan community residing abroad during their return to the country.
