Morocco Prepares for Eid Al-Adha with Enhanced Safety Measures and Livestock Markets

The government is active in preparing for Eid Al-Adha. In this perspective, all markets are open for the sale of livestock and a guide has been drawn up to specify all the preventive measures to be respected such as disinfection, respect for physical distancing and the wearing of masks.
During his speech to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, the Minister of Agriculture announced the launch of these preparations.
Addressing the elected representatives, the member of the government specified that in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior, other markets are about to be developed in the cities for the sale of livestock, while fully respecting the health measures. According to him, Eid Al-Adha represents the time of year when farmers, especially small breeders, consolidate their income.
According to the Agriculture Department, the average turnover on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha exceeded 12 billion dirhams. This amount was largely returned to farmers to cover the expenses of other agricultural activities, particularly those related to the preparations for the next campaign.
Pending July 31, the date of the celebration, the ministry has so far identified more than 7.2 million heads of sheep and goats intended for slaughter on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, which was to end on Wednesday and targets a total of 8 million heads. To recall, the identification of animals, in coordination with the veterinary services of the ONSSA, is an essential measure for animal traceability and transparency in transactions.
