Morocco Prepares to Ease Border Restrictions, Boost Tourism

After easing the restrictive measures on May 20, the Moroccan government is preparing to relax the entry conditions into the territory.
"The issue of access to the territory is on the table," says a government source who reports that the government could make an announcement on this subject next week. A likely reopening of borders, or at least an easing of entry conditions into Moroccan territory, would give a boost to the relaunch of tourism and facilitate the holding of the Marhaba 2021 operation, notes le360, which recalls that the decision on this matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after the opinion of the scientific and advisory committee under the Ministry of Health.
In any case, the decision to reopen the borders depends on the evolution of the health situation in the kingdom and internationally, adds the same source, stressing a likely resumption of direct flights with 54 currently suspended countries.
Will we witness a total reopening of the borders or a simple authorization of new special flights? Nothing is certain. Will Moroccans living abroad be able to access Morocco? So many questions that remain unanswered for the time being. But what is certain is that a health protocol will be imposed on travelers, in particular the digital circulation certificate whose implementation is being finalized.
On June 10, the state of health emergency in force in Morocco will come to an end. With an acceptable vaccination pace and an improving epidemiological situation, the conditions seem to be in place for a total or partial reopening of the borders.
