Morocco Prepares to Drill New Well in Promising Natural Gas Field

Predator Oil & Gas is preparing to launch the drilling of the Mou-5 well in the Guercif license. This exploration will help ensure the presence of natural gas in the Moroccan subsoil.
The drilling of the Mou-5 well will start once the surface infrastructure is finalized. The well is located in the Guercif license, with an area of 7,269 km2, where exploration work (wells Mou-1, Mou-2, Mou-3) had been carried out, revealing the existence of biogenic gas at shallow levels, recalls Médias24.
According to Predator Oil & Gas, it is possible to commercialize the biogenic gas in the form of compressed natural gas. The site could produce 20 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d), according to the company’s estimates, stressing that this production can be maintained for a period of six years and will allow the recovery of a gross volume of 43.8 billion cubic feet (about 1.2 billion cubic meters), based on a minimum of 4 production wells.
The exploration of the Mou-5 well will focus on the zone located between 891 and 1,140 meters deep, a zone that was not sufficiently taken into account in the Mou-4. According to Predator Oil & Gas, this zone is conducive to the accumulation of hydrocarbons, as it has migration paths (fractures, faults), potential reservoirs (porous limestones) and effective trapping.
In total, this well could produce up to 169 billion cubic feet (4 billion cubic meters), according to the estimates of an external firm commissioned by the company. The latter, for its part, expects a higher production of 18 billion cubic meters. The drilling of the Mou-5 should take place in early April 2025.
