Morocco’s Popular Movement Condemns Hamas Leader’s Comments on Abraham Accords

The remarks made by Khaled Meshaal, leader of the Palestinian Hamas movement, against Morocco and its people during a meeting of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in Rabat are not to the liking of the Popular Movement (MP), one of the three opposition political parties.
The Popular Movement (MP) is angry with Hamas. The reason is the remarks made by its leader in a video broadcast during the meeting organized by the PJD in Rabat on Sunday. In this video, Khaled Meshaal called on Moroccans to denounce and cancel the Abraham Accords, which link the United States, Israel and Morocco, without highlighting the efforts made by the Moroccan people and King Mohammed VI to strongly support the Palestinian cause. Since the spectacular and surprise attack by Hamas and the Israeli retaliation, Moroccans have been demonstrating for Palestine and calling for a ceasefire.
The MP is surprised, in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Mohammed Ouzzine, by the "recent statements of the leader of the Hamas movement, Khaled Meshaal, who blatantly denounced the position of Morocco, the King and the people," without mentioning the constant support the kingdom provides to the Palestinian people to realize their "legitimate right to establish an independent and fully sovereign state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution." A position that Morocco continues to reiterate. At the joint Arab-Islamic summit held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, the kingdom displayed this position.
In the eyes of the Popular Movement, Khaled Meshaal’s statements against Morocco, "in addition to the lack of the minimum conditions of tact and diplomatic norms," are like "an attempt to impose a diktat on an independent state." Condemning the "irresponsible" remarks of Khaled Meshaal, the MP believes that the Hamas leader is serving an "agenda that is outside the context of the Palestinian issue."
This opposition party also assures that Morocco "will remain mobilized to provide, without restriction or condition, support to the Palestinian people." "Support for the Palestinian people is a matter of principle in which the King and the Moroccan people firmly believe, because this support is not subject to bargaining, passing contexts and bidding wars," concludes the MP.
