Morocco’s Police Chief Cracks Down on Corruption as Two Officers Arrested

The Director General of National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, also DGST, is determined to fight corruption in the police. Two police officers were arrested in the space of two days, one in Salé, the other in Agadir.
In a press release, the DGSN indicated that the regional judicial police service of Rabat opened an investigation to determine the criminal acts attributed to a police officer, an element of the anti-gang brigade under the provincial security of Salé. He would be involved in a case of corruption and blackmail. The police officer had been arrested on Friday in flagrante delicto of possession of a sum of money received from an individual after having blackmailed him.
On Saturday, a senior officer was arrested in Agadir for his alleged involvement in a case of corruption and forgery and use of official documents. He received a bribe after providing this service. The judicial investigation revealed the involvement of two individuals in the use of a forged residence certificate to obtain a national identity card, the DGSN said in a press release. For now, he has been taken into custody.
