Morocco's Police Academy Hit by Disciplinary Action After Ethics Probe

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced on Saturday a series of disciplinary sanctions and performance evaluation measures against certain police officers of the Royal Institute of Police (IRP). This announcement follows an investigation conducted by the General Inspectorate of National Security, at the request of the Director General of National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi.

The investigation revealed several irregularities, professional abuses and individual behaviors contrary to security standards and police ethics. Among the sanctions, the temporary suspension of the Director of the IRP pending a disciplinary review, and similar measures were taken against two other officers, a sergeant and a police inspector.

Sanctions were also addressed to other Institute employees, including a reprimand for a police officer, warnings for three other employees, including two commissioners and a police inspector, who will be transferred outside the police training institutions. In addition, letters of observation were sent to three police officers guilty of negligence, and a commander was relieved of his duties and transferred outside the IRP.

The results of the investigation led to a series of performance evaluation measures to remedy the identified dysfunctions, particularly with regard to the application of good governance standards in the management of human and material resources, as well as compliance with the principles of the Code of Ethics for National Security officials. These measures are part of the ongoing efforts of the DGSN to monitor and ensure the proper functioning of its services, particularly those responsible for police training, with a particular focus on respect for professional integrity rules and exemplary personal conduct.
