Morocco Poised to Raise Minimum Wage Amid Labor Talks

On the eve of International Workers’ Day, the government and unions seem to be reaching concrete proposals, after several rounds of dialogue. An agreement could soon be signed by the two parties, in order to ease social and economic tensions.
Aziz Akhannouch will soon invite the trade union centers and the employers’ association to a decisive meeting, to present the government’s offer within the framework of the social dialogue, reports Al Akhbar, specifying that the proposals of the executive are the result of the various commissions.
Among them, the example is given of the harmonization of the minimum wage in the agricultural sector and its gradual unification in the industry, commerce and liberal professions sectors, and the improvement of purchasing power by reducing income tax in the public and private sectors, while increasing the promotion quota.
The government also plans to propose to employees who have not accumulated the 3,240 days declared to the CNSS to benefit from the retirement pension by paying the balance of their contributions, the same source points out.
However, the newspaper reports that no proposal is on the horizon regarding the unions’ demands for wage increases and family allowances, specifying that these points will be studied during the decisive meeting that will take place between the Head of Government, the unions and the employers’ association.
