Morocco Pledges New Protections for Expats in Gulf Countries Amid Labor Concerns

To deal with the difficulties encountered by Moroccans residing in the Gulf countries, particularly with regard to the mistreatment of employers and the lack of a legal framework to defend their interests, the Moroccan authorities promise new measures.
According to the Delegate Minister in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs), Nezha Louafi, new provisions and special conventions will be introduced very soon as part of the legal consultations she intends to conduct.
Her Ministry will work, she says, to expand, diversify and adapt the offer in terms of legal advice for Moroccan nationals established in the Gulf countries.
Louafi specified that a special section in the 2016-2020 Government Program has been devoted to the grievances of MREs, as well as to the defense of their personal interests.
To this end, an operational program has been set up by the Ministry, in collaboration with several national stakeholders, in compliance with national and international standards.
