Morocco’s PM: No Plans to Ease COVID-19 Lockdown Despite Improving Situation

The Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, has stated that "no relaxation of the current confinement measures is planned for the moment", thus attempting to cut short the allegations circulating in public opinion.
"We hear here and there that the government is about to take measures to ease the confinement system, but for now there is no change in sight," El Othmani told the Le360 website. Even though he admits that the epidemiological situation in the kingdom "is starting to improve," he still believes that "it is insufficient to allow a relaxation of the confinement measures." The reduction of the duration of the night curfew in force between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. is therefore not being considered.
"It is true that we have recorded 4,000 positive cases of contamination per day over the last 10 days after approaching the bars of 7,000 and 10,000 cases. [...] Nevertheless, this decline remains insufficient, even though the occupancy rate of intensive care services has regressed from 52% to 48%," added the Head of Government.
As of August 31, the Covid-19 report shows 860,948 cases of contamination, 793,607 recoveries and 12,649 deaths. In total, 18,539,073 have received the first dose while 14,780,868 people have been injected with the two doses.
