Morocco Plans 10 New Dams to Boost Water Resources and Flood Control by 2050

Ten new dams with a capacity of 2,300 million m3 will be built in the Sebou river basin by 2050.
Improving flood management and strengthening the mobilization of surface water resources in the basin is the objective of this Integrated Water Resources Development Plan (PDAIRE) currently being updated.
The Sebou basin already has 11 dams, and another one under construction. This is a program related to law 36-15 on water.
The development and rational management of the water resources of the Sebou basin will impact the socio-economic and environmental development of the country.
The new law 36-15 following the old 10-95 water law should allow the improvement of governance and participatory management regarding the development and implementation of the PDAIRE, according to the same source.
The Sebou basin is one of the most important hydraulic basins in Morocco, with significant agricultural activities on more than 1.8 million hectares.
