Morocco’s Plan to Hire Foreign Doctors Faces Opposition from National Medical Order

The National Order of Physicians expresses its opposition to the Moroccan authorities’ project to recruit foreign doctors. It also questions the scientific value of certain foreign diplomas.
According to the National Order of Physicians, it is necessary to control the scientific skills of foreign doctors before recruiting them, as some medical degrees awarded by certain countries "would have no scientific value," reports Al Massae. The order opposes the Ministry of Health’s project regarding the recruitment of foreign doctors. It blames the authorities for the exclusivity of recruiting and authorizing doctors of their choice to practice provisionally in Morocco.
Foreign doctors wishing to practice permanently in the kingdom are the only ones subject to an equivalence of diplomas to become members of the local medical order. They do not go through an authorization from the Ministry of Health.
The shortage of doctors facing Morocco is at the origin of the recruitment of foreign practitioners. A solution that is far from solving the structural problems that the country will face in the long term. Hence the need to train Moroccan executives and publish Law No. 34-09 on the health system and care provision, which has been blocked for a decade.
