Morocco’s PJD Party Ordered to Repay $500,000 in Audit of Political Finances

The Court of Auditors recently published its annual report on the audit of the accounts of political parties for the year 2021. According to this report, the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) is at the top of the list of parties that must repay significant sums to the Treasury.
The Islamist party must thus return more than 5 million dirhams. Other parties, such as the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the Constitutional Union (UC), the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), Attaliaa and Annahj Addimocrati, have also been singled out for their insufficient financial management, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The Court of Auditors’ report indicates that thirteen political parties have not yet reimbursed around 10.32 million dirhams to the Treasury, due to unused or misused support, lack of supporting documents and undue support. Shortcomings in financial and accounting management were also highlighted, including certain accounting operations in inappropriate accounts.
The report also highlights errors in reporting the closing account balances of the previous year by three political parties, as well as non-compliance with the planned adjustments by the standardized accounting plan for political parties by nine parties. However, sixteen political parties reimbursed a total amount of 25.96 million dirhams in 2021 and 2022, equivalent to 72% of the unsupported support.
Despite the efforts of some political parties to regularize their situation, thirteen parties have not yet reimbursed an amount of around 10.32 million dirhams as of the end of December 2022. Similarly, 29 out of 34 parties produced their annual accounts to the Court, including 11 out of time. Twenty-two accounts were certified without reservation by the accountants, six others with reservation and one account was produced to the Court without a certification report.
