Morocco’s Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Stable Despite Global Challenges

Morocco could fear a shortage of medicines, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A large part of the raw materials necessary for the manufacture of medicines in Morocco are imported from China. But since the pandemic of the virus, the supply of raw materials is becoming more and more complicated, and delivery delays are being recorded.
For his part, Ali Sedrati, president of the Moroccan Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (AMIP), assures that there is not yet any impact on the supply of medicines, because the national regulations impose at least 3 months of safety stock.
The Ministry of Health has asked operators, in a letter, to build up a safety stock to cover the needs of the Moroccan market in medicines, finished products and pharmaceutical raw materials necessary for the manufacture of medicines. Industrialists must also communicate the monthly status of their safety stock of finished products and raw materials. They must also find new suppliers and diversify their sources of supply of pharmaceutical active substances.
For the president of the Moroccan Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry, the safety stock is currently between 3 and 6 months in the kingdom. However, he maintains that Morocco can ensure the local production of many essential medicines for the health of citizens, except in situations where the shortage of raw material supply is likely to affect all regions of the world.
