Morocco’s Pepper Exports to Europe Surge 45%, Dominating Market

After tomatoes, peppers. Morocco is increasingly confirming its position as a pepper exporter, especially to Europe, with a strong 45% increase in exports in recent years.
Benefiting from a favorable climate and advanced agricultural infrastructure, Morocco is establishing itself as the African leader in greenhouse area, with pepper production throughout the year. Exports usually start between January and March; as an illustration, during the first quarter of this year, the country has already exported 56,000 tons of peppers, a sign of a good start to the season according to EastFruit.
The European market is the main destination for Moroccan peppers, with Spain and France in the lead, accounting for 65% of the market. Germany and the Netherlands are also regular importers. Similarly, a significant portion of exports is destined for African countries, such as Mauritania.
Exports to United Kingdom are booming, particularly following Brexit, which led the country to diversify its suppliers outside the EU. In just two years, Moroccan exports to the UK have been multiplied by ten.
