Morocco Parliament to Hear Former ISIS Fighters on Stranded Citizens in Syria, Iraq

Parliament is preparing to hear Daesh members next week as part of an exploratory mission on Moroccans stranded in Syria and Iraq. Numbering 6, these former fighters will enter this institution for the first time.

These six fighters, consisting of four men and two women, have returned to the kingdom after fighting in different areas on the territories formerly occupied by the terrorist organization, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. They have been identified so that the members of the parliamentary mission can have a diversity of views on the situation of their compatriots held in these countries.

They also want to know the reason why they affiliated with this terrorist organization, understand their experience on the ground, the details of their return to the country and to what extent they have reintegrated into society.

For the time being, the repatriation of these Moroccans is problematic due to the fighters having multiple nationalities or being born of mixed marriages. Given the complexity of the mission, the selection of people to be repatriated is already proving difficult for the parliamentarians: who should be repatriated among the Moroccan mothers, those who married foreign fighters, their children or even their foreign husbands? wonders the same media.

Pending official figures, nearly 90 families, 234 accompanied children and 49 orphans would still be stranded in Syria and Iraq, the same source specifies.
