Morocco’s Parliament Delays Abortion Debate, Awaits Royal Commission Findings

The parliamentary debate on the right to abortion has been postponed again. Parliamentary groups refuse to participate in the debate on this issue and refer to the amendments of the Royal Commission tasked with conducting consultations in this regard.
It is a source within the Bureau of the Commission on Justice, Legislation and Human Rights of the first Chamber who told Hespress that the parliamentary groups of the first Chamber "have decided by consensus not to submit proposals on the right to abortion, and to wait for the conclusions of the Royal Commission tasked with presenting amendments on this right".
According to the website, the proposals of the elected representatives on the right to abortion will be reduced to those made by FGD deputy Omar Balafrej who is not a member of the Commission on Justice, Legislation and Human Rights, but rather of the Finance and Economic Development Commission.
After postponing the deadline to September 20 last, the Bureau of the Commission on Justice, Legislation and Human Rights of the first Chamber set a new deadline for the submission of amendments on the revision of the Penal Code.
This will be for the last week of November, in response to the request of the Socialist group (USFP) and the Constitutional Gathering group (RNI and UC), the media reported.
