Morocco Overhauls Territorial Administration: New Criteria for Walis and Governors

Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, intends to review the criteria for appointing walis and governors. He will also clean up the territorial administration.
Competence will take precedence over loyalty with a preference for economic profiles. This is the new approach in the appointment of walis and governors. Abdelouafi Laftit is said to have already drawn up a list of walis and governors from the new generation who meet these criteria, reports Assabah.
This new approach will be the reason for the departure of certain executives from the territorial administration, in particular the walis and governors who have grown old, the governors who no longer have good relations with the walis of Berkane, Inezgane, Kénitra and Chefchaouen, the authority agents converted into investors in the agricultural sector by associating with parliamentarians. Khalid Safir, wali director general of local authorities, who was close to the former delegate minister to the Minister of the Interior, Noureddine Boutayeb, is already on the list of executives to be thanked.
These executives who can renounce their tendency towards bureaucracy and their focus on administrative affairs alone, and demonstrate competence in the economic field, could have the chance to be maintained in their positions.
